Empowering Young Lifesavers with Our Heart Safe School® Program
Our innovative Heart Safe School® Program is on a mission to empower children with the knowledge and skills they need to act decisively in the critical moments of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Through our comprehensive curriculum, we focus on the "3-Steps to Save a Life" initiative, underscoring the crucial role that defibrillators play in such emergencies.
We believe that equipping children with the ability to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies is not just education—it's a transformation into being capable, confident lifesavers. Whether it's assisting a family member at home or a stranger in the community, these skills are invaluable. Our aim is for every child to be prepared and proactive, making lifesaving know-how a standard part of their learning journey, repeated annually for reinforcement and skill retention.
Another lifesaving demonstration at St Mary’s Catholic School in Manly raising awareness and education to students to be ABLE and READY to help save lives in case of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest out-of-hospital.
Thank you to St-Mary’s Catholic School for allowing our Staying Alive Foundation and Heart Safe Australia team to provide another lifesaving demonstration to year 5 and 6 students.
A big THANK YOU again to the Insurance Advisernet Foundation and Amanda Smith from Optimum Insurance for the prior sponsorship for the defibrillator donation making St-Mary’s Catholic School a Heart Safe School®.
Did you Know?
On average, 575 Australians suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest out-of-hospital every week and ONLY 1 out of 10 WILL SURVIVE!
Defibrillators are basically a "Doctor in a box" analysing the patient's condition and providing guidance for CPR and importantly shocking the patient to restart the heart if required.
Knowing WHERE the defibrillators are located and HOW to use them is critical to help save a life in case of a sudden cardiac arrest out-of-hospital as defibrillation within three minutes of collapse can increase the chance of survival to over 70%.
It’s important to educate students as they might be the ones to help save a life not only in school but at home and in the community. Such lifesaving skills should be part of the Curriculum and provided yearly to students if not already.
Everybody can be a lifesaver with defibrillator awareness, access, and lifesaving education.
